Look for the good, and expand on it

Words are getting snarlier these days, pitting friend against friend, family members against each other, and political party members...well, you know. A word slug-fest abounds in the news and on the Twitter and Facebook feeds. Many sensitive folks I know, and even people who claim to have skin as tough as an alligator's are feeling the effects of all this murky energy. So what is a spiritually oriented person to do?

In my attempts to counterbalance the muck, I attended a candlelight vigil and walk on Inauguration evening with 1269 other good hearted folks (10% of our town's population). Flickering electric candles and earnest signs held aloft, we walked the sidewalks of my small town, encouraging each other to look for the positive, and take a stand for what we want for our country.

I also made this sign for the next day's Women's March on Washington: a statement of what I stand for, rather than protest against. I stood on a street corner of small town Mt Vernon, WA--well actually I danced on that street corner-- and beamed this message with as much wattage as I could muster. Which brings me to this suggestion: Get clear about what you stand for, and support that.

We can shout at each other all we want, but true progress is made when we know, and then affirm what it is we are creating. I'm pretty clear about my creations: The sign says it all.

With kind, respectful, peace-filled, and wellness-promoting blessings, Elke
